Stephen Hawking: God was not needed to create the Universe

The Big Bang was the result of the inevitable laws of physics and did not need God to spark the creation of the Universe, Stephen Hawking has concluded” (Yahoo News).

According to Mr. Hawking, “Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist,” (The Grand Design). He also says that, “If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason — for then we should know the mind of God.” How arrogant for someone to say human Reason (notice the capital R Reason) can make us equal to God.

As Paul rightly says, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” (Romans 11:33-36, KJV).

Something very interesting he also says is that, ““Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing.” Really? Well, where did that law come from? Who created that law? Was not man who created that “natural law”? Hawking slits his own throat by pretending to reach the infinite (God) with a finite cause. This is the danger of Natural Theology, which exhalts human Reason and faculties to discover or understand God, the Messiah, and the gospel apart from the Bible and the Bible alone.

By assuming the pre-existence of the law of gravity, you also assume it had a beginning, or else you would be arguing for the divinity of a non-eternal, non-perpetual, man-made law. Thus you dethrone God and place in His stead a law created by a fallible and sinful man. Who’s going in circles here? If you assume that the existence of natural laws supports spontaneous creation, then how were those laws created in the first place?

Mr. Hawking may be a Lucasian professor holding the seat Isaac Newton once held, but he is definitively as ignorant and as foolish as an arrogant three year old child.

Pray for Mr. Dawking, that God may save his soul.

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good” – Psalm 14:1; KJV.

  1. i was just reading that article on yahoo before and was thinking the same thing, " if gravity spontaneously blah blah blah, who created gravity? it has to be God. poor guy is working so hard to find such a simple answer.

  2. Ultimately, Mr. Hawking's intention is not to rule out creationism (the belief that God created the universe), but to try desperately (and in vain) to get rid of God the Judge and Sovereign Master. Atheism is nothing more than that: hardened unbelievers that want nothing to do with Ultimate justice.

  4. @mrko umana: yes, no one is saved from God's Holy and Just judgment:"…just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment…" Hebrews 9:27Thank you for stopping by and reading the blog mrko. God bless you.
